FOREST KELLEY

Supply Air / Return Air

In Supply Air / Return Air, we navigate an intrabelly of domestic life—a constellation of HVAC ducts—reminding us of the invisible structures that undergird daily comfort. The dislocation of systems from their energy sources stratifies them from our conscience. Whether fueled by coal, wood, wind, solar, or geothermal energy, our air is the same: omnipresent/assumed/clean. We are relieved from the frictions that push us against active thought. This work brings us close to the features and sounds of these unidirectional breathing systems—their motors, sensors, air, and companion effects of structural heat/tension and cool/release—that, otherwise, do little more than surface after dark.
